You Don't Have To

You don't have to -

participate in the normal culture of hating your body,

feel any shame for what you are experiencing,

be powerless any longer to the voices telling you otherwise.

You don't have to go along with society telling you fat is bad.

You don't have to feel there is something wrong with your body because you have cellulite. Or fat rolls. Or back bulges. Or multiple chins. Or roundness. Or because no one in the media looks like you.

You don't have to spend your life committed to changing your body to what culture deems acceptable.

You don't have to quit sugar. Or go paleo. Or drink green smoothies and detox.

You don't have to feel hungry or deprived in order to prove to society that you want it badly enough.

You don't have to do cross training, or count your steps, or complete weight loss challenges.

You don't have to start "being good" on Monday after having "cheat days" to make up for it.

You don't need more willpower.

You don't need to make excuses about why your body is the way it is.

You don't need to love your body.

But I wonder what would happen if you stopped believing that there was something wrong with it and acknowledge it's with you for life.

How would it feel to spend a few moments sitting quietly with your body, whispering to it that you're sorry, and letting it know it doesn't have to be this way any longer?

You don't have to hate your body any longer.
